If your payment doesn't go through

Quick fixes when a payment won't complete.

Last reviewed 10 September 2026

Now and then a payment won't go through. It's usually something small and quick to fix. Work down this list and you'll most likely be sorted.

The quick checklist

  1. Check your internet connection. A patchy connection is the most common culprit, especially on a phone at an event. Find better signal and try again.
  2. Open in a normal browser. If you tapped the link from inside an app (Facebook, Instagram, a messaging app), it may have opened in that app's built-in browser, which can interfere with payment. Open the link in Safari or Chrome instead — the banner at the top of the page offers a Copy link (iPhone) or Open in Chrome (Android) shortcut.
  3. Turn off ad blockers / tracking blockers. These sometimes block the secure payment form from loading. Disable them for the page and reload.
  4. Try a different payment method. If your card won't go through, Apple Pay or Google Pay — or a different card — is a quick alternative.
  5. Check your card details. An expired card or a typo in the number is easy to miss.

"We couldn't complete a security check"

Before you pay, RaffleLink runs a quick, invisible check that you're a real person and not an automated script. It protects organisers from card fraud and bulk ticket grabs, and almost nobody ever notices it. A small number of browsers can't complete it, and when that happens you'll see a message that starts with "We couldn't complete a security check" or "A security check was blocked by…", with a single link offering the fix for your situation.

The thing to know: tapping again on the same page won't help. Once the check has failed in a browser, it stays failed there until you reload or change browser. So do the one thing the message suggests:

  • Inside the Facebook, Instagram or another app's browser? The message will say so. On an iPhone, tap Copy link, open Safari, and paste the link in. On Android, tap Open in Chrome.
  • Using Firefox? Click the shield icon in the address bar, turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for this site, then tap Reload page.
  • Anything else? Tap Reload page and try again. If it keeps happening, open the link in a different browser (Safari or Chrome are the safe bets), or turn off any privacy or ad-blocking extensions for this site.

Nothing has been charged and no tickets are held at this point — the check runs before your order is created. If you reload the page, the details you'd already typed come back; in a new browser or tab you'll enter them again.

"High traffic, please try again"

If you see a message about high traffic, the raffle is just busy — lots of people buying at once. Wait a moment and try again; it usually clears in seconds.

"Your reservation has expired"

This means the reservation timer ran out before you finished. No charge was made — just pick your tickets and check out again, a little quicker this time.

Still stuck?

If you've worked through the list and still can't pay:

  • For questions about the raffle itself, contact the organiser — their contact details are on the raffle page.
  • For a technical problem with RaffleLink, email support@rafflelink.com with your name and what you were trying to do. We're happy to help.

You won't be double-charged

If a payment fails, you aren't charged. If you're ever unsure whether a payment went through, check your email — a successful purchase always sends a confirmation. No confirmation means no completed purchase.
